The vision
We recently updated a brand-new model home out in the Coves, one of the most gorgeous new neighborhoods on the west side of Wichita. When we arrived it was a beautiful house that simply disappeared after sunset. Now the stacked stone, warm wood, and clean modern lines glow at dusk, and it looks stunning from across the water.

The challenge
New construction means a big, open lawn, young trees, and a lot of flat wall surface. The design needed to add depth and texture to the facade without washing it out, and give the newly planted trees presence even though they are still small.

Our approach
We grazed the stacked-stone walls with uplights set close to the base so the light rakes across the stone and picks up its texture. The young trees along the lawn were uplit to add height and frame the house from the street, and accent lighting around the entry plantings leads the eye to the front door.

Stone Wall Grazing
Uplights placed close to the base of the stacked-stone walls rake light across the stone, turning a flat surface into the home's strongest nighttime feature.

Tree Uplighting
The young trees along the lawn are uplit so they frame the house from the street and add height to a wide, open lot.

Entry Accents
Accent lighting in the entry beds highlights the plantings and draws a warm path of light toward the front door.
The transformation
